Welcome to Rue Flower:
Equity in Wellness
In New Mexico, birthing people of color experience significantly higher rates of maternal mortality, with mental health and substance use disorders serving as the leading causes of preventable pregnancy-related deaths.
According to a report by the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health (2025, March), The Role of Birth and Postpartum Doulas in Improving Maternal Mental Health, doulas and community health workers (CHWs) are uniquely positioned to bridge these systemic gaps. Because they operate outside rigid institutional constraints, they cultivate continuous, trusted, and culturally congruent relationships that significantly mitigate perinatal mood disorders (http://www.doi.org/10.69764/RBDM2025).
